What to expect at your first reformer Pilates class

By the Jian Pilates team ·

A bright, quiet Pilates room with timber reformers

The short answer

Wear fitted clothes and socks, arrive early to check in, and tell your instructor about any injuries. The class lasts 50 minutes, and you will work at your own level on your own reformer.

Before you arrive

Choose leggings and a fitted top, so nothing catches on the springs or straps. Bring socks and water. We provide the reformers, mats and props.

Check in at the counter before class. Late entry is not allowed, because the opening exercises prepare your body for the rest of the session.

During the class

Your instructor shows you how to set the springs and footbar, then leads you through exercises lying, kneeling and standing. Movements are slow and controlled. You may shake a little, and that is normal.

If something hurts, stop and tell your instructor. They can change the exercise or the spring load.

After the class

Expect to feel muscles you did not know about for a day or two. If you want to come back, a class pack in the app brings your price per class down. Remember to cancel at least 24 hours ahead if your plans change.
